一 | WASHINGTON -- President Joe Biden is considering a trip to Israel in the coming days, but nothing has been finalized, a senior administration official said Sunday.A trip would send the strongest message yet that the U.S. is behind Israel following the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas. The administration has already pledged military support, sending U.S. aircraft carriers to the region as well as aid. Officials have said they would ask Congress for upward of $2 billion in aid for both Israel and Ukraine.The official could not publicly discuss internal deliberations about the potential presidential travel and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. And the death toll of U.S. citizens rose to 30, with 13 still missing.Egypt’s state-run media said el-Sissi told Blinken that Israel’s Gaza operation has exceeded “the right of self-defense” and turned into “a collective punishment."Blinken told reporters before leaving Egypt that “Israel has the right, indeed it has the obligation to defend itself against these attacks from Hamas and to try to do what it can to make sure that this never happens again." Mindful of the potential human cost in Gaza, Blinken said "the way that Israel does this matters. It needs to do it in a way that affirms the shared values that we have for human life and human dignity, taking every possible precaution to avoid harming civilians.’’Earlier Sunday, the envoy met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh, talks that built upon earlier sessions with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority. Blinken said that what he heard in every meeting with Arab leaders “was a determination of shared view that we have to do everything possible to make sure this doesn’t spread to other places, a shared view to safeguard innocent lives, a shared view to get assistance to Palestinians in Gaza who need it and we’re working very much on that.”The White House also appointed David Satterfield, a former ambassador to Lebanon and Turkey, to lead U.S. efforts to get humanitarian assistance to “vulnerable people through the Middle East.” Satterfield was expected to arrive in Israel on Monday.From Washington, President Joe Biden’s national security adviser said the U.S. was not “making requests or demands of Israel with respect to its military operations.” Jake Sullivan, making the rounds of the Sunday TV news shows, said the administration was “simply stating our basic principles — the principles upon which this country is based and all democracies, including Israel, are based. Meanwhile, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her friends refuse to sit back. They venture into the Upside Down repeatedly in an attempt to find Vecna and kill him once and for all. Their efforts escalate when Vecna sets his plan in motion and begins targeting children again. His first target is Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Mike’s (Finn Wolfhard) sister. Vecna appears to her not as the monstrous creature, but in his human form, Henry. He convinces her that he is there to protect her from the monsters haunting Hawkins. Holly is taken to the Upside Down but she is still under the impression that Henry is her ally. Henry traps Holly inside a memory of the Creel House where everything looks deceptively normal. Max, whose physical body is in a coma in Hawkins, finds herself trapped in one of Henry's memories, just like Holly. She reaches out to the latter and reveals Henry's true intentions. Her storyline leads her through several of Henry’s memories, including his days inside Hawkins Lab and his early life in Hawkins. It is also revealed that Henry, Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Steve Harrington’s parents, among others went to the same school, tying the series to the events of Stranger Things The First Shadow, the Broadway play that explores Henry’s childhood and introduces his connection to Joyce. The Duffer Brothers confirmed earlier that the play is part of the official Stranger Things universe. As Vecna continues hunting children, Max and Holly team up and plan an escape. Eleven and Jim Hopper (David Harbour) also enter the military base in the Upside Down where they confront Doctor Kay. Behind a sealed door, she has been holding a powerful captive. The reveal confirms that the prisoner is Eight, another test subject like Eleven and her sister. This moment triggers Will’s long-awaited transformation. Since his rescue in Season One, Will has maintained a psychic link to Vecna and the Upside Down that has grown more powerful over time. The connection intensifies to the point where Will can see through the eyes of demogorgons and at times through Vecna himself. When Vecna confronts him directly, he reveals that Will was the first child who showed him how easy it was to break someone and reshape them to his will. The scene features one of the most chilling lines of the series said by Vecna to Will: "You broke so easily. You showed me what was possible, what I could achieve. Some minds, it turns out, simply do not belong in this world. They belong in mine." When Vecna takes away the children and unleashes demogorgons to kill Will and his friends, he finally remembers Robin’s words that the answers lie within him. He taps into the happiest parts of his life and, in a moment loaded with emotions, unleashes psychic powers of his own. He destroys the demogorgons the same way Henry once killed his victims.
